Having watched the film again recently, I’ve come to really like the fact that Tony decided to remove the Arc Reactor from his chest in Iron Man 3. I personally feel it is an action akin to what Mako does with his scarf in Book Four of the Legend of Korra, in that they both let go of a character motif that serves as a memento for something violent that has happened to them in the past. This may be because I was never a huge fan of the comics, or comic books in general prior to the MCU, but I love seeing that kind of change as long as the character’s psychology is portrayed in a dramatic, but realistic way.

I also disagree that this film negates some of Tony’s character growth. The huge catharsis at the end of Iron Man 3 was Tony’s ostentatious way telling pepper that he was going to begin dealing with his stress in a way that isn’t just locking himself in his basement and banging together as many suits as he possibly can. It’s his way of saying that he’s going to start dealing with his trauma the right way, not that he’s giving up on wearing the suit. It wasn’t surprising or odd to me at all when he end up back in the armor.

He is less visually dynamic without the arc reactor, though.

The reason the T-Rex wasn’t putting up as great as a fight as you would expect was because it’s over 20 years old. They’ve confirmed it… IT’S THE SAME T-REX FROM THE FIRST MOVIE!!! which of course makes that fight even more awesome if that’s possible to believe.

To comment on the actual T. rex being rubbish at 1:10. This is actually not the case.
There was some controversy with the rex being a scavenger with a few supporters of the idea. But recently there was an in depth study that firmly put the rex back in the top predator niche. In short, there are a number of prey fossils of Triceratops and Edmontosaurus with healed wounds that can only come from T. rex indicating they were attacked while alive. Based on the leg proportions T. rex was also faster than it’s prey. there was a lot more, but this is the basic idea of it. At the very least it did active hunting as well as scavenging.

So yeah. Tyrannosaurus rex is still the king.

Im only 40 mins in, but as you seemed to have credited quite a bit to the legacy of this series you should consider watching “A body and his dog” if you haven’t already. While certainly not the first post-apocalyptic film its pretty clear that the mad max series and especially Fallout cribbed a fair bit from it.

Hey guys, long-time listener, first time writing in (how’s that for an opening cliche ? :D). Really love the podcasts, they’ve gotten me through looooong hours of work and travel and have given me a greater appreciation for lots of the films I love (or hate :D). Loved this one as well, i fail to see the general hype on Daredevil and am 100% behind you on the subject of unnecessary violence in TV.

Just wanted to chime in on the subject of Alex saying he places Agents of Shield on the bottom of his MCU list. I have to ask – did you drop it in the middle of season 1 like 90% of people ? Or did you manage to get to the part where it links up with Winter Soldier ? Fair enough if you got to that part and still dislike it, but if you haven’t seen the second part of season 1 and season 2 – I strongly recommend you do, they do so much to build up the MCU, the Shield-Hydra fallout. The writing’s gotten really better (both in terms of story, characters and humour), they’ve introduced a lot of interesting and loved characters from the comics and they’re building up both towards Civil War and . . . another series that shall remain unmentioned as to avoid spoilers. If anyone’s been put off by the early episodes of Shield and dropped it – I strongly recommend they try and push through the bad parts

Anyways, keep on keeping on, looking forward to future episodes (can’t wait for Ultron, going this Friday to see it :D)
